Facebook Accused of Meddling In US Elections 39 Times Since 2008

(PatriotNews.net) – Facebook has found itself embroiled in accusations of election meddling a staggering 39 times since 2008, according to a study by the Media Research Center.

Last month, researchers from MRC Free Speech America revealed that Google had intervened in U.S. elections 41 times over the past 16 years. After scrutinizing Google’s actions, the team turned their attention to Facebook, concluding that despite Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s purported belief in free speech, his company’s actions paint a different picture.

While acknowledging Zuckerberg’s seeming support for free speech, Media Research Center founder and President Brent Bozell emphasized the disparity between belief and action within Facebook. Bozell released a public statement that regardless of what Facebook hierarchy believes, the company’s policies have historically resulted in extraordinary censorship. He added that it’s always as if targets the same political groups each time, which needs to stop.

In their detailed breakdown of findings, MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider and editor Gabriela Pariseau highlighted the paradoxical relationship between Zuckerberg‘s statements in support of free speech and Facebook’s engagement in censorship and election interference.

The study revealed that Facebook’s censorship efforts extended to various political figures, including 2024 presidential candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and 2022 Senate and congressional candidates. Notably, the platform deleted the account of Virginia gubernatorial candidate Amanda Chase in 2021 and intensified censorship efforts against Donald Trump in the lead-up to the 2020 election.

Schneider and Pariseau pointed out instances where Facebook had artificially elevated liberal news and stifled conservative voices, highlighting a pattern of bias in the platform’s operations.

In response to these findings, MRC Free Speech America proposed several measures to combat election interference, including investigations by relevant committees, legislative safeguards against viewpoint discrimination, and the establishment of a bipartisan commission to address censorship issues.

Reflecting on the report’s revelations, Schneider underscored the urgency for Facebook to cease its interference in electoral processes. He asserted during a radio interview with Mark Levin that these Big Tech guys have to stop meddling.
