Harris Falsely Blames Pro-Life Laws for Women’s Deaths

(PatriotNews.net) – Vice President Kamala Harris claimed on Friday that Amber Thurman died due to Georgia’s pro-life law protecting unborn babies, stating that Thurman’s doctors could have gone to jail for giving her the care she needed. Speaking in Atlanta, Harris said, “Under the Trump abortion ban, her doctors could have faced up to a decade in prison for providing Amber the care she needed.” She further suggested that doctors must wait until a patient’s life is in severe danger before acting.

Harris was referring to Thurman, a woman from Georgia who died after complications from taking the abortion pill mifepristone. Following reports on her death, several media outlets and abortion-rights advocates have used Thurman’s case, along with that of another woman named Candi Miller, to argue that pro-life laws are endangering women.

However, there are no U.S. laws that prevent doctors from treating pregnancy emergencies. In fact, Georgia’s law allows doctors to perform abortions if they believe there’s a medical emergency.

Harris linked Thurman’s death to pro-life policies supported by former President Donald Trump, though Trump had no involvement with Georgia’s 2019 law, which protects unborn babies after a heartbeat is detected.

Pro-life advocates responded to Harris’s claims, rejecting the suggestion that Georgia’s laws were responsible. Katie Daniel, the State Policy Director for SBA Pro-Life America, said, “We mourn the loss of Amber, Candi, and their unborn children. Their deaths were preventable, but it’s clear that Georgia’s law allows doctors to act in these situations. The misinformation spread by abortion advocates may have contributed to their tragic outcomes.”

Daniel emphasized that both women should be alive and well with their children today and urged states to combat misleading information about abortion laws.

Dr. Ingrid Skop, an OB-GYN and director at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, warned that the real danger comes from self-managed abortion drugs like mifepristone. She explained that both women experienced complications requiring surgery and highlighted that Amber Thurman died from sepsis, a known risk of the abortion pill.

Skop stressed that misinformation, not pro-life laws, is responsible for these deaths. She noted that Candi Miller’s family mentioned she avoided medical care out of fear of prosecution, but no pro-life state law punishes women for seeking an abortion.

The White House and the Harris campaign did not respond to requests for comment.
