Tom Homan Selected by Trump for Border Security Role

(PatriotNews.net) – Thomas Homan, a well-known advocate for strong border enforcement, is set to join Donald Trump’s administration, according to a recent statement from the former president on his Truth Social platform. Homan, a seasoned border officer and former acting chief of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2017 and 2018, was a vocal supporter of Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign. ICE is responsible for finding, arresting, and deporting migrants living in the U.S. illegally.

Trump’s statement didn’t mention Homan being nominated to lead the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or ICE. Instead, Homan is expected to take on a role as “Border Czar,” working within the White House to advocate for and coordinate border security efforts. This position wouldn’t require Senate confirmation and would allow Homan to influence immigration policy and enforcement from within the administration. According to Trump, Homan will oversee all aspects of border security, including deportation efforts, and will help push DHS and ICE officials to enforce existing immigration laws. Homan’s appointment comes as Trump doubles down on his commitment to secure the border and ramp up deportation efforts.

Homan’s role could also impact the flow of foreign workers entering the U.S. on visas. Many of these workers, including white-collar professionals employed by major corporations, enter legally but stay past their visas or work without authorization. Trump’s allies, including Elon Musk and Bill Ackman, have called for reforms that balance the demand for skilled foreign labor with opportunities for American workers.

Trump has also pledged to launch a large-scale deportation campaign targeting the estimated 1.3 million migrants who have already lost legal appeals to stay in the U.S. This initiative is likely to face significant challenges from pro-migration advocates and business interests opposing strict enforcement. This effort would likely focus first on individuals convicted of serious crimes, followed by others caught violating immigration laws.

While Trump has not yet announced his pick to lead DHS, the agency’s role extends far beyond border security. It oversees anti-terrorism efforts, natural disaster relief, and visa programs, among other responsibilities. Trump’s past missteps in appointing DHS leaders with ties to pro-migration interests have been a source of criticism. This time, he is expected to select officials who share his vision for stricter immigration enforcement.
