(PatriotNews.net) – The Houthi terrorist organization announced on Tuesday that it launched multiple attacks on U.S. warships traveling through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a vital waterway connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. According to Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Major General Pat Ryder, the USS Stockdale and USS Spruance, both Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers, were the targets of the assault.
The Houthis reportedly fired at least eight uncrewed aerial drones, five anti-ship ballistic missiles, and three anti-ship cruise missiles. However, Ryder confirmed that U.S. forces successfully intercepted and defeated all the threats. “There was no damage to the ships and no injuries to personnel,” Ryder said during a press briefing.
The attacks came shortly after U.S. forces carried out precision airstrikes over the weekend against facilities used by the Iranian-backed Houthi group in Yemen. These facilities, according to Ryder, were storing advanced weapons meant to target U.S. and international vessels operating in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. He added that the U.S. operation involved both Navy and Air Force assets, including F-35C fighter jets.
The Houthis also claimed they attacked the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier using drones and cruise missiles, along with two unnamed U.S. destroyers. However, there is no evidence to support these claims, and U.S. officials have denied that any damage occurred to their ships or personnel.
The Houthis, backed by Iran, have a history of targeting international vessels in the region, creating significant security risks for global shipping routes. The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is a critical chokepoint for international trade, and attacks in this area heighten tensions in an already volatile region.
Aircraft from the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) were reportedly involved in supporting operations in the area, adding to the U.S. presence aimed at countering threats from the Houthis and their Iranian sponsors.
This escalation underscores the ongoing danger posed by the Houthis’ access to advanced weaponry supplied by Iran, as well as the continued U.S. commitment to securing international waterways. While the Houthis boast about their alleged successes, their claims remain unverified and highlight their propaganda tactics rather than actual military achievements.
