(PatriotNews.net) – In a surprising move, Iran reportedly told the Biden administration it would not attempt to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump. This assurance, delivered through a secret message last month, was aimed at reducing tensions between the two nations, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The assurance was delivered on October 14, just weeks after the White House warned that any attack on Trump would be treated as a major threat to national security and even “an act of war.” These warnings followed accusations earlier this year that Iran had been involved in plotting against Trump during his campaign.
In August, federal prosecutors charged a Pakistani man linked to an Iranian murder-for-hire scheme. This man had allegedly planned to assassinate Trump in retaliation for the 2020 U.S. strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, Iran’s top military commander and leader of the Quds Force.
Soleimani, who was killed under Trump’s orders during an airstrike in Iraq, remains a revered figure in Iran, celebrated as both a hero and a martyr. Tehran has repeatedly vowed to avenge his death but insists it will do so through “legal and judicial means,” according to Iran’s mission to the United Nations.
While Iran’s message to the Biden administration is notable, officials in Tehran have downplayed allegations of involvement in assassination plots. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently dismissed these claims as “third-rate comedy.”
The Biden administration has not commented on the latest assurances, nor has President-elect Trump’s transition team. The lack of response raises questions about how seriously the U.S. views Tehran’s promises, especially given their history of hostility.
Despite Iran’s public denial of plotting against Trump, U.S.-Iran tensions remain high. In recent years, the relationship between the two nations has been strained by sanctions, military actions, and the fallout from Soleimani’s assassination.
As the Trump administration begins to take shape, this exchange highlights the ongoing challenges in U.S.-Iran relations. Whether Tehran’s pledge signals a shift toward diplomacy or a temporary tactic remains to be seen.
