Socialist Sweep Rocks New York Primaries

Three Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidates won big in New York City primaries on June 24, 2026. Darializa Avila Chevalier beat longtime incumbent Adriano Espaillat. Brad Lander defeated Dan Goldman — the same congressman who led Trump’s impeachment push. Claire Valdez knocked out Antonio Reynoso. All three winners were backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist who has built a powerful political machine in the city.

The wins sent a clear message to the Democratic Party’s leadership. DSA co-chairs said in a podcast that their goal is to signal what kind of presidential candidate Democrats should run in 2028. One newly elected candidate, Chevalier, has openly called for abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). She also drew attention for a social media post showing her wiping her hand on an American flag — the kind of stunt that tells you everything about where this movement stands.

A Movement With a Radical Agenda

The DSA is not your grandfather’s labor union. The group’s updated policy platform calls for abolishing the U.S. Senate, the Supreme Court, and the presidency as independent institutions. ^[1] That’s not reform — that’s tearing up the Constitution. The group has grown its membership by 10% since February 2024 and is now pushing beyond city council seats into Congress. ^[1] For conservatives, this is a five-alarm warning about where the far left wants to take the country.

DSA members don’t just disagree with Jeffries — they call him an outright “enemy.” ^[3] Jeffries has spent years blocking socialist candidates and backing moderates against DSA challengers. The socialists haven’t forgotten. After their primary sweep, some made clear they want to take Jeffries out next. Jeffries Fights Back — But the Ground Is Shifting

Jeffries isn’t going quietly. He warned that targeting him “will not end well” for challengers and vowed to fight back against the DSA in state legislature races. ^[6] His ally Stefani Zinerman did beat DSA-backed challenger Eon Huntley in a State Assembly race, winning 53-47%. ^[9] Jeffries also publicly said he wasn’t even aware of any serious plans to primary him — brushing off the threat. But three knocked-out allies in one night is hard to brush off.

The bigger picture here matters for every American, not just New Yorkers. The DSA isn’t trying to nudge the Democratic Party left — they want to gut it and rebuild it around socialist goals. ^[2] A movement that wants to abolish the Supreme Court and Senate, open the borders by ending ICE enforcement, and use primary elections to force out anyone who won’t go along is a direct threat to the constitutional order Americans have lived under for 235 years. Whether Jeffries survives his own primary or not, the radical left is gaining ground — and they’re not hiding it.
