(PatriotNews.net) – Actor Obi Ndefo, best known for his role as Bodie Wells in Dawson’s Creek, passed away on Saturday at the age of 51. His death comes five years after he tragically lost both legs in a hit-and-run accident. The cause of his death is still unknown.
Ndefo’s sister, Nkem Ndefo, shared her grief on Facebook, writing, “Heartbroken at the loss of my younger brother and knowing he’s finally at peace.”
Besides being an actor, Ndefo was a writer, yoga teacher, and the founder of Arts Alliance for Humanity. This non-profit, based in Los Angeles, aimed to promote art literacy in communities and public schools. Ndefo was deeply committed to helping others, even as he faced personal hardships.
In August 2019, Ndefo was involved in a horrific accident. He was loading groceries into his car when a speeding SUV swerved and hit him. The impact severed his right leg, and his left leg was barely attached. The driver fled the scene, but the next day, a 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the accident. He was suspected of driving under the influence and causing injury.
Despite the terrible circumstances, Ndefo chose to focus on healing rather than holding onto hate. A few months after the incident, while adjusting to life with prosthetic legs, he told The Los Angeles Times that he didn’t harbor any anger toward the driver. He believed that such feelings would only hurt himself in the end.
Ndefo, a Yale drama school graduate, continued to practice yoga after the accident and remained an inspiration to many. His Dawson’s Creek co-star, Mary-Margaret Humes, expressed her sadness in an Instagram post. She remembered him as a “bright shining light” and admired his resilience. “You always were and always will be a bright shining light,” Humes wrote. “Rest in peace, sweet warrior.”
Ndefo’s life was full of strength and love, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
