(PatriotNews.net) – Arizona’s Attorney General, Kris Mayes, is examining a recent comment by former President Donald Trump to see if it might count as a “death threat” under state law. Trump’s remark was made at an event hosted by Tucker Carlson, where he took a swipe at Republican former Representative Liz Cheney. Cheney, known for opposing Trump and supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, was called a “radical war hawk” by Trump, who sarcastically suggested she would feel differently about war if she faced guns herself.
Although many saw this as Trump’s usual over-the-top language, media outlets interpreted his words as a violent threat. Vice President Harris quickly picked up on the story, telling reporters in Wisconsin that Trump’s rhetoric is becoming more hostile. “He spends a lot of time plotting revenge against political opponents,” Harris said, adding that Trump “suggested rifles should be trained” on Cheney. Harris claimed this was disqualifying behavior for anyone aiming to be president.
Various news sources amplified Harris’ view, with headlines highlighting Trump’s so-called “violent rhetoric.” The Daily Beast declared, “Trump Fantasizes About Shooting Female Rival in the Face,” while CNN said, “Trump says ‘war hawk’ Liz Cheney should be fired upon in escalation of violent rhetoric.” Other outlets, like NPR, the Washington Post, and New York Times, also ran headlines that emphasized violent imagery, painting Trump’s comment as a dangerous call to action.
Mayes, Arizona’s top prosecutor, announced she has asked her criminal division chief to review Trump’s words. Speaking to local news station 12News, she noted, “I’m not prepared to say whether it was or wasn’t a threat,” but said it is concerning ahead of election season. She emphasized the need for a peaceful election environment, free from rhetoric that could fuel tension at polling sites.
Harris continued her criticism, describing Trump as “unstable” and “unhinged,” claiming his comments show a troubling escalation. For her, this is evidence of Trump’s relentless “revenge” mindset as he gears up for the election. Whether or not legal action follows, this incident highlights how divisive Trump’s rhetoric remains, especially as election season heats up.
