Accused Killer Released Hours After Stabbing Veteran to Death

(PatriotNews.net) – A Washington state judge released a 19-year-old accused of killing a 65-year-old veteran just 27 hours after his arrest. The teen, K’Shawn Konscience Jimerson, was charged with stabbing Michael Gray, a handyman and military veteran, at a home in Renton, Washington.

According to Renton police, Jimerson called 911 after the incident, admitting to the stabbing and telling the operator he would be waiting outside with the knife. He also claimed self-defense during the call.

Witnesses reported hearing a heated argument and later saw Jimerson with a large butcher knife, covered in blood. One witness saw Gray, the victim, bleeding and urged Jimerson to call 911. When police arrived, they found Gray with stab wounds to his side and back. Despite officers’ attempts to save him, Gray died at the scene. The knife used in the attack was found in a sink full of detergent.

Jimerson remained on the scene and was detained by police. Despite probable cause for second-degree murder, Jimerson was charged and taken into custody. Judge Michelle Gehlsen set Jimerson’s bail at $50,000, much lower than the $2 million requested by prosecutors. Jimerson was able to post bail and was released from custody.

Surveillance footage obtained by detectives reportedly shows Jimerson attacking Gray from behind, striking him with a large wooden club. After hitting Gray twice more in the head after he fell, Jimerson ran off, and both men later entered an apartment out of camera view.

Gray had been hired by Jimerson’s grandmother to do maintenance work around the apartment. He had been working on cleaning the walls when the fatal altercation occurred. Gray lived nearby in a single-story home with roommates who described him as a kind man, always willing to help. They also revealed that he was a military veteran, though it’s unclear what branch he served in.

Prosecutors have since filed a motion to increase Jimerson’s bail, with a hearing scheduled for later in the week. Fox News Digital reached out to the King County Prosecutor’s Office for comment but had not received a response at the time of reporting.
