Teen Accused of Murdering Police Chief Cannot Stand Trial

(PatriotNews.net) – In August 2023, former police chief Andreas Probst was killed while riding his bicycle in Las Vegas. The tragic incident occurred when two teenagers, Jesus Ayala and Jzamir Keys, allegedly hit Probst with a stolen car. The attack was not an accident—authorities say it was intentional, and the shocking video of the event went viral online.

Ayala, now 19, was recently found unfit to stand trial and has been moved to a secure psychiatric facility in Nevada for evaluation. He will receive treatment and could potentially face trial if found competent. Meanwhile, the criminal charges against him have been put on hold. Ayala and his co-defendant Keys, who was 16 at the time, have both pleaded not guilty to the murder and other charges related to Probst’s death.

In the chilling video of the hit-and-run, one of the teens records the crime on his phone. The driver asks his friend, “Ready?” before steering the car directly into Probst, who was riding his bike along the road. The passenger can be heard laughing as the car crashes into Probst. The horrific scene ends with one of the teens remarking, “That guy got knocked out!” before they speed away.

Probst, 64, was a retired police chief from Bell, California. He was taken to a hospital after the hit-and-run but tragically died from his injuries. Later that day, Ayala was arrested and allegedly showed no remorse. According to a police report, Ayala even bragged that, because he was young, he’d likely only get a “slap on the wrist.” However, an officer warned him that his crime could lead to much harsher consequences.

Days after the incident, Keys was arrested too. He had shared the video of the hit-and-run with friends on social media, and it soon spread across his high school, leading to his capture. Both teens now face serious charges for their role in Probst’s death.
