(PatriotNews.net) – Florida Senator Rick Scott is calling out Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for taking shots at former President Donald Trump just weeks before a major election. Scott made it clear he was stunned by McConnell’s timing. “While Leader McConnell and I have big disagreements, I’m shocked he would go after a fellow Republican senator and the Republican nominee for president so close to an election,” Scott said in a statement reported by Blaze News.
In excerpts from McConnell’s upcoming biography, The Price of Power by Michael Tackett, the Senate leader didn’t hold back. He criticized Trump and the MAGA movement, saying it was leading the Republican Party in the wrong direction. McConnell claimed that if former President Ronald Reagan were around today, he wouldn’t even recognize the GOP under Trump’s leadership. “Trump has done a lot of damage to the party’s image and hurt our ability to win elections,” McConnell reportedly said.
Scott didn’t mince words in his response, highlighting the deep problems the country is facing. “With nearly $36 trillion in debt, an open border, inflation out of control, and global conflicts escalating, we need dramatic change—and McConnell doesn’t agree.”
McConnell’s criticisms weren’t only aimed at Trump. He also took shots at Scott’s leadership during the last Senate campaign season. McConnell claimed Scott mismanaged the Senate campaign committee, arguing that Scott’s plan backfired and gave Democrats an edge. “Rick acted like we were going to win in a landslide, even when there was no evidence of that,” McConnell said. “His campaign against me looked like a desperate attempt to shift blame.”
Scott, however, remains firm in his beliefs—and his support for Trump. He’s currently in a tough competition with Senators John Thune of South Dakota and John Cornyn of Texas to replace McConnell as the Republican leader. Scott pushed back on McConnell’s remarks, saying the party should focus on solutions instead of division.
“I support Donald Trump’s efforts to change how Washington operates—McConnell doesn’t. I think we should stand behind the candidates that Republican voters choose—McConnell doesn’t,” Scott said. “With everything happening in the world, we need bold change—McConnell doesn’t see it that way.”
