Woman Killed by Propeller in Airfield Incident

(PatriotNews.net) – A Kansas woman tragically lost her life in a freak accident at Cook Airfield in Derby, Kansas, on Saturday, October 26. Amanda Gallagher, 37, was reportedly taking photos when she accidentally backed into an active airplane propeller, which caused her critical injuries.

The accident occurred just before 3 p.m., according to Sedgwick County dispatch, who received the emergency call. Derby, located in Sedgwick County, is the largest suburb of Wichita. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Gallagher badly injured. She had been taking pictures of people boarding and deplaning when the accident happened. Gallagher was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries.

Gallagher’s family identified her through a GoFundMe page created to support funeral expenses. The page described her as a “kind, adventurous, creative, and beautiful” person, noting that she was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed by many. The family shared that Amanda had a passion for skydiving and photography, activities she was doing at the time of the accident.

Cook Airfield expressed condolences to Gallagher’s family and friends in a heartfelt statement on Facebook. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the young lady who died yesterday after a tragic accident with an airplane propeller on Cook Airfield,” the statement read. The airfield’s message asked the community to keep Amanda’s loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.
