(PatriotNews.net) – Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., spoke on Sunday about the need for a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants. She believes Vice President Kamala Harris is the right person to make it happen.
Warren appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper. Tapper asked her to defend the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies, which many voters do not support.
“Voters overwhelmingly disapprove of how the Biden-Harris administration has handled the border,” Tapper said. “By giving the nomination to one of the leaders of the border effort, aren’t Democrats doubling down on one of your party’s biggest vulnerabilities?”
Warren responded by saying, “Border crossings now are lower than they were in the last year of the Trump administration. But recognize – and I know that Kamala Harris knows – this is a problem that ultimately has to be solved by Congress.”
She went on to say, “We need more resources at the border, and in the states and cities supporting migrants. I believe we need to create a pathway to citizenship. All of that is part of what we need for comprehensive immigration reform. Kamala Harris will work with Congress to get that done.”
Former President Trump has focused on illegal immigration in his campaign. During the Biden administration, border crossings have surged at times.
Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, accused Harris of wanting citizenship for illegal immigrants at a rally in Minnesota on Saturday. He said, “Worst of all, Kamala Harris would happily erode every protection we have to prevent them from voting. She wants to hand over control of our country to people who shouldn’t be here in the first place. And we cannot let her. And I have a message, a very simple message to the millions of illegal aliens who are in this country and shouldn’t be. If you are here, start packing your bags right now because Donald J. Trump is coming back into office.”
The debate over immigration continues to be a major issue as both parties prepare for the upcoming election.
