Trump to Sue Feds for $100M Following Mar-a-Lago Raid

(PatriotNews.net) – Former President Donald Trump is planning to sue the federal government for $100 million over the FBI’s raid on his Mar-a-Lago estate in August 2022. Trump and his legal team claim that the raid was an attempt to interfere with his run for the White House in 2024.

Trump’s lawyers are accusing the government of invasion of privacy, malicious prosecution, and abuse of process. The raid happened about a year and a half after Trump left office, and it was followed by the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith, who began investigating Trump’s handling of classified documents.

Recently, a judge dismissed the classified documents case against Trump, saying that the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith was unconstitutional. Trump’s legal team argues that the raid on Mar-a-Lago was all part of an effort to stop Trump from running for president again in 2024.

Daniel Epstein, one of Trump’s lawyers, stated that Trump believes the entire investigation was designed to interfere with his campaign. They also argue that the FBI didn’t follow proper procedures when they conducted the raid without notifying Trump or his lawyers in advance.

Earlier this year, the FBI claimed that the raid followed standard procedures, which included guidelines on the use of force. The FBI said that agents were instructed to dress in a way that concealed their law enforcement equipment, but that no special measures were taken beyond the norm.

However, Trump’s lawyers have pointed to emails from within the FBI that suggest some agents were unsure if they had enough probable cause to justify the raid. Additionally, House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan revealed that a top FBI official had concerns about the way the raid was handled.

Trump’s legal team argues that Attorney General Merrick Garland should have recognized that Trump, as a former president, might be immune from prosecution regarding the documents. Now, the federal government has six months to decide whether to settle Trump’s $100 million claim. If they refuse, Trump may proceed with a lawsuit.
