Teen Murder Suspect Caught Laughing After Allegedly Killing Mom

(PatriotNews.net) – The murder trial of 15-year-old Carly Gregg has revealed some disturbing details, with video footage showing her behavior before and after she allegedly shot and killed her mother, Ashley Smylie, in March. Carly was just 14 at the time of the incident.

In court, chilling surveillance footage from the family’s kitchen was presented. It showed Carly Gregg moments before the killing, holding something behind her back as she walked toward her bedroom. Then, gunshots could be heard, and soon after, Carly is seen calmly returning to the kitchen and sitting down as if nothing had happened. Even the family’s two Labrador retrievers followed her back into the room, unaware of the horror that had just occurred.

Prosecutors claim Carly used a .357 Magnum pistol to kill her mother. Afterward, she allegedly texted her stepdad, Heath Smylie, trying to get him to come home, possibly to ambush him. Heath testified during the trial, explaining how he had barely opened the kitchen door when a gun went off in his face. “It went off two more times, but I grabbed it after the first shot and twisted it away from Carly,” Heath said. He was shot in the shoulder during the encounter.

One of the most haunting parts of the testimony came from Heath, who described Carly’s reaction after the shooting. He said she was screaming, looking terrified, as if she had seen something beyond belief. “It looked like she had seen a demon,” he said, adding that she was completely out of control in that moment.

Carly has pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder, attempted murder, and tampering with evidence. During the trial, it was revealed that her mother had recently discovered Carly was smoking marijuana and using burner phones, which likely led to tension between them. Carly has rejected a plea deal of 40 years in prison, with her defense team arguing that she was insane at the time of the crime.
