Police Find 5-Year-Old Dead After Birthday Party

(PatriotNews.net) – A heartbreaking incident occurred in Boise, Idaho, where a young boy, Matthew Glynn, was found dead after going missing from his fifth birthday party. Matthew, who had autism and was nonverbal, wandered away from his home on Monday evening around 5:45 p.m. His family, along with local authorities, launched an intense search to find him, but it ended tragically.

According to the Boise Police Department, Matthew was discovered in a canal about half a mile from his home. The police noted that, as of now, there doesn’t appear to be any signs of foul play. Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar expressed deep sorrow, saying, “It is heartbreaking to have such a conclusion to this effort when we had so hoped to find Matthew alive and well.”

The search for Matthew began shortly after he went missing. Boise Police, Boise Fire, and Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue all participated in the search, using drones, K9 units, and utility vehicles to cover as much ground as possible. Detectives from the Ada County Child Abduction Response Team also joined the effort, going door-to-door in the neighborhood.

Search teams used creative methods in hopes of finding Matthew. For instance, Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue played his favorite song, “Wheels on the Bus,” hoping it might catch his attention. Scotty Perkins, a spokesperson for the rescue team, explained that understanding Matthew’s preferences was crucial because of his autism. They tried to use strategies that would be more likely to draw him out.

Unfortunately, the outcome was not what anyone had hoped. Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer offered his condolences, saying, “This is not the outcome we were all hoping for. Our hearts go out to Matthew’s family, and we extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time.”

The body found is presumed to be Matthew, but an official identification will be made by the Ada County Coroner’s Office. Multiple agencies were involved in the search, but sadly, it ended in tragedy.
