(PatriotNews.net) – Vice presidential candidate JD Vance has spoken out strongly against sanctuary cities, especially in light of a troubling situation in Aurora, Colorado. Recently, a Venezuelan gang reportedly took control of an apartment complex outside Denver, sparking concerns about safety and crime in the area.
On “Fox & Friends,” Vance stated, “If we don’t have a border, we don’t have a real country.” He blamed Vice President Kamala Harris for allowing what he called “the business of drug cartels” to spread into American communities, saying that this has caused harm to everyday citizens. Vance sent a direct message to Harris, emphasizing how Americans are suffering due to these issues.
Vance is now calling for the end of sanctuary cities and states, policies that prevent local law enforcement from working with federal authorities to deport illegal immigrants. He pointed to the recent gang activity in Aurora, where alleged members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang have taken over an apartment building. These gang members are reportedly charging residents rent in exchange for so-called “protection.”
“If illegal immigrants are causing problems in your community, they should be sent back home,” Vance said. He also mentioned that cities refusing to cooperate with deporting violent criminals should receive less federal funding. According to Vance, sanctuary cities make communities “poorer and less safe.”
District Attorney John Kellner, who represents Aurora, confirmed that authorities are taking the situation seriously. Speaking on “America’s Newsroom,” he explained that local police, along with a multi-agency task force, are investigating the gang’s activity. Kellner reassured the public that law enforcement has successfully prosecuted similar gangs in the past, and he expects the same with this case.
Governor Jared Polis, however, downplayed the situation, with his spokeswoman suggesting that the reports were exaggerated. Still, Aurora City Council member Danielle Jurinsky expressed disappointment in the governor’s response, believing the problem was being ignored.
Denver, which has received over 42,000 migrants since 2022, has spent more than $72 million supporting them. Meanwhile, the Treasury recently labeled the Tren de Aragua gang as a serious criminal organization, offering rewards for the capture of its leaders.
