Family of Bride Killed on Wedding Night Receives $1.3M Settlement

In a tragic accident near Charleston, South Carolina, Jamie Lee Komoroski, 26, crashed her rental car into a golf cart on April 28, 2023. The cart was carrying newlyweds Samantha Miller, 34, and Aric Hutchinson. Miller died in the collision, and Hutchinson was seriously injured. Two other passengers in the golf cart were also hurt.

Miller’s estate and the injured parties will receive settlement money, as reported by WCSC. The bars that served Komoroski and the rental car company will pay a large amount in damages. Hutchinson and his lawyer, Danny Dalton, went to court to finalize the settlement, which totals $863,000 after fees. Dalton noted that the amount was less than expected because of an estate dispute between Hutchinson and Miller’s mother, Lisa Miller, who questions if the couple was legally married.

Lisa Miller has also argued over how much money she should get from the settlement and has asked the court to remove Hutchinson as the estate’s representative. Dalton said, “Ms. Samantha Miller was killed in a driving collision. Mr. Aric Hutchinson is the proper personal representative for the estate.”

Komoroski was allegedly driving at 65 mph in a 25 mph zone when the crash happened. She was arrested at the scene and charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death, reckless homicide, and two counts of felony driving under the influence causing great bodily injury. She was released on bond in March and is currently under house arrest while awaiting trial.

The crash caused the golf cart to fly 100 feet and flip over several times. If found guilty, Komoroski could face a minimum of one year and a maximum of 25 years in prison. Other parties involved, like the restaurant where Komoroski worked, have not yet settled with the plaintiffs.

This heartbreaking incident has left a family in mourning and a community seeking justice. As the legal process continues, everyone affected hopes for a fair outcome and some measure of closure.
