(PatriotNews.net) – A Chinese man was arrested after he repeatedly tried to get into former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach. The man, named Zijie Li, is 38 years old and from El Monte, California. He claimed to have documents linking China’s government to a recent attempt to assassinate Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
During the rally, a shooter named Thomas Matthew Crooks fired shots that hit Trump’s ear and injured three supporters, one of whom died. Secret Service agents killed Crooks. Following this, security around Trump was tightened, and South Ocean Boulevard next to Mar-a-Lago was closed.
On July 19, Li drove to Mar-a-Lago in a gray Toyota Prius and tried to tell Secret Service agents about his documents. Trump was not home, as he was at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The agents told Li he was trespassing and gave him a warning. They also told him not to return, or he would be arrested.
Li didn’t listen. On July 22, he was seen driving over the Royal Park Bridge twice. On July 30, he tried to approach Mar-a-Lago again but was stopped by police who noticed Mar-a-Lago’s address on his GPS. Li left but came back less than an hour later. This time, police and Secret Service agents arrested him near Mar-a-Lago.
Trump was not home during the arrest but is expected to return this weekend. Temporary flight restrictions are set for Saturday evening through Sunday, due to “VIP movement” centered around Mar-a-Lago.
Li’s arrest is not the first involving a Chinese citizen at Mar-a-Lago. In 2019, a Chinese woman was arrested for lying to get into the club, claiming she wanted to discuss economic relations between China and the U.S.
Court records show Li used a Mandarin translator and that the judge ordered him to have no contact with Trump, anyone associated with him, or Mar-a-Lago. Li’s next court appearance is set for Monday, August 5.
