Biden Says Trump Supporters “Can’t Think, Can’t Read”

(PatriotNews.net) – President Joe Biden stirred up some controversy during his speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Monday night. While talking about education, he took a direct shot at Trump supporters, saying they “can’t think, can’t read very well.”

This comment was similar to something Hillary Clinton said back in 2016 when she called Trump supporters a “basket of deplorables.” Biden’s remark came as he was discussing the importance of education in making America the greatest nation in the world. He said, “How can we be the greatest nation in the world without the best education system in the world? Donald Trump and his Republican friends, they not only can’t think, they can’t read very well.”

The crowd at the DNC laughed at Biden’s comment. He then urged them to “Seriously, think about it. Look at their Project 2025. They want to do away with a part of education.” Biden was referring to a conservative plan, supported by Trump allies, that aims to overhaul the federal government if Trump wins the 2024 election. This plan includes changes that could affect education policies.

Back in 2016, Hillary Clinton faced a lot of backlash when she called half of Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables.” She said this group was made up of “the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic—you name it.” Clinton’s remarks were seen as divisive, and the Trump campaign quickly used her words against her. They accused Clinton of showing her “true contempt for everyday Americans.”

Biden’s comments at the DNC echo Clinton’s mistake, and it’s likely that Trump and his supporters won’t let this go unnoticed. The next election is already heating up, and it seems the harsh words and insults are just getting started. Whether or not Biden’s words will hurt him politically remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the battle lines are drawn, and both sides are ready to fight.
