(PatriotNews.net) – A tragic incident unfolded in Dallas, Texas, when a 66-year-old man was shot and killed while attempting to sell a cellphone on Facebook Marketplace. The victim, identified as Ahmad Alkhalaf, was found dead at a gas station in the Oak Cliff area on November 8.
Dallas Police arrested 19-year-old Amaya Medrano and charged her with capital murder. According to investigators, Alkhalaf had arranged to meet a buyer through Facebook Marketplace to sell an iPhone 15. The two met at a gas station, but the situation turned deadly.
Surveillance footage captured a brief exchange between Alkhalaf and Medrano before she turned away, pulled out a gun, and shot him. Medrano then fled the scene, leaving Alkhalaf’s body next to his pickup truck.
“On November 8, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting in the 300 block of South Marsalis Avenue,” police stated. “The preliminary investigation determined that one person had been shot.” Alkhalaf was rushed to a local hospital but later died from his injuries.
Medrano was identified through her distinctive face and neck tattoos. She was also linked to the crime after investigators found the stolen iPhone listed for sale on the same Facebook account used to arrange the meeting.
Court records reveal that Medrano was already on probation at the time of the shooting. In 2023, she pleaded guilty to stabbing someone and was sentenced to five years of probation. She is now being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1 million bond.
The Dallas Police Department is continuing its investigation into the case. They are urging anyone with information to come forward by calling 214-671-4095.
This tragedy highlights the risks involved in online marketplaces, where buyers and sellers often meet in person. Authorities recommend meeting in public places, such as police stations, to ensure safety during transactions.
As the investigation continues, Alkhalaf’s death serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise from seemingly ordinary interactions.
